Poros Island
The Temple of Poseidon may require a vivid imagination to picture how it may have looked but the stunning views over the Saronic Gulf are well worth the trip.
Vagionia bay has a sunken city. The site was once the ancient harbour of Kalavaria. Some of the roads and ruins may still be seen on the sea bed. The Monastry of Zoodohos Pigi (meaning source of life) was built in the Byzantine style between 1726-1732 in pine tree forest. The monastry takes its name from the nearby spring where the water is said to have healing powers. Close by is the beautiful little church of Agii Anargyri. The Clock Tower is probably the most visited site on the island. Its a bit of a climb from the waterfront and gives an excellent view of the town.
For the more energetic, a trip to the Old Windmill at the highest point on Sphaeria should not be missed. The views to the East and West along the strait are breathtaking. Access from the town either on the East or West side if you plan to walk, or from the North if you wish to go by road
A small but interesting Museum can be found on the West side of the harbour at Koryzi square. It is open daily except Monday from 8:30am to 3pm. Admission is free.
